Mutt Motorcycles RS13 250cc: Conquering the Lahar Trails of Mt. Pinatubo
The untamed terrain of Mt. Pinatubo's lahar route offers an exhilarating challenge for adventurous two-wheelers.  We recently pushed the British-bred Mutt Motorcycles RS-13 250cc to its utmost on a test ride in this harsh terrain.  This is how it performed.

The RS-13 250cc's hand-stitched seat, blacked-out parts, and simple design initially give it the appearance of a vintage scrambler.  Its robust construction and vintage style instantly convey a sense of durability, which we were excited to test against the harsh lahar environment.

The single-cylinder, air-cooled 250cc engine produces precisely the proper amount of power to handle volcanic ash and loose sand.  Although it isn't the most aggressive in its class, we were nevertheless able to keep up a steady pace even on the trail's softer stretches thanks to its torquey character.

The RS-13 had outstanding maneuverability thanks to its lightweight frame and upright riding stance.  Although we felt the need for a little more travel on rougher areas, the front and rear suspensions handled bumps very well.

The RS-13's large dual-sport tires provide respectable traction on the changing lahar sand.  Deeper areas, however, required a more cautious throttle response to prevent over-digging.

Although we had to be careful about abrupt stops because of the unpredictability of loose terrain, the disc brakes offered sufficient stopping power.

The ride was comfortable for the RS-13 despite the difficult conditions.  Despite its simple design, the padded seat provided support, and the handlebars' upright position improved control over uneven terrain.  When negotiating challenging inclines and river crossings, the bike's comparatively light weight (in comparison to larger adventure cycles) made it easier to maneuver.

For our trail trip up Mount Pinatubo, the Mutt Motorcycles RS-13 250cc proved to be a dependable and fashionable partner.  Despite lacking the robust suspension of a specialist dirt bike, it performed admirably in the challenging lahar terrain.  For riders looking for a vintage-looking scrambler that can manage both city streets and weekend excursions into the outdoors, this motorcycle is ideal.

Would we go on a trail ride with it again?  Of course.  The R-S13 250cc has the heart of a real adventurer and is more than simply a pretty machine.
