FSRAP’s Road to 18 Million Responsible and Law-Abiding Filipino Riders
With the perennial heavy traffic problem in the Philippines and the current limitations on public transportation brought about by the pandemic, it’s not surprising that Filipinos found its way to patronize motorbikes as an alternative. Today, there are more than 18 million bikers in the Philippines, who enjoy faster, safer, and cheaper mode of transportation for them to go to work, to run errands and even to travel for leisure.
The number of motorcycle riders keeps on growing by day while the road still remains the same, resulting to inevitable mishaps. Fortunately, local riders are swiftly adapting and becoming more responsible, aware, and knowledgeable. Information sharing on the internet and on social media plays a big role on this development, but more importantly, the major effort of training and educating riders by certain organizations and the government helped in shaping the current roadmap that we are looking at right now. One of these organizations that are dedicated to train and educate riders in the Philippines is the Full Spectrum Riders Association of the Philippines or FSRAP.
Led by its National Chairman, Dr. Miguel Ortiz, FSRAP ‘is a group of riders and advocates dedicated to train and educate riders and support the organization as partners of the Philippine National Police(PNP) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).’ They are Force Multipliers – ‘organizations outside the government which perform voluntary public safety services in support to existing government public safety function and programs such marginalized sector and live in the same area.’
As of now, FSRAP has actively participated in various government consultations and public hearings. One of its officers Deputy Secretary General Rod Cruz promotes Responsible Riders Seminar and has served as Lecturers on Riders Rights. Lastly, participated in numerous Outreach Programs and prime petitioner against RA11235.
The organization encourages the riding community to join their cause and be a member. They want to lead and help the 18 million Filipino riders and motorbike enthusiasts to become responsible and law-abiding riders. According to FSRAP, everyone can join the organization provided that the applicant is a citizen with good community standing and willing to abide and undergo training and orientation on the Rules and Regulations set by the organization. Applicants should prepare the following requirements before they apply to be a member:
• FSRAP Form
• Copy of Official Receipt of Registration (O.R) and Certificate of Registration (C.R)
• Copy of Driver’s License
• Barangay Clearance / Police Clearance / NBI Clearance
